Long twin 2-pin CFLs feature two parallel tubes in an elongated format with a 2G11 2-pin base, designed for magnetic ballast fixtures. These lamps bridge the gap between compact CFLs and linear tubes, offering high lumen output in a plug-in format.

Brand Naming

The long twin format is most commonly associated with the Philips PL-L product line. GE markets the equivalent as Biax L, and Sylvania as Dulux L. The 2-pin version of the PL-L includes an integrated starter for magnetic ballast operation — make sure to distinguish it from the 4-pin PL-L, which requires an electronic ballast and uses the same 2G11 physical base but with four pins instead of two.

These lamps are used in commercial and industrial fixtures where a longer lamp body is acceptable. They are less common than the 4-pin electronic versions but remain necessary for legacy magnetic ballast installations.
