Single tube 2-pin CFLs are the most compact plug-in fluorescent format, featuring a single folded tube with a G23 2-pin base. These lamps are used in small downlights, desk lamps, wall sconces, and compact task fixtures where space is limited.
Brand Naming Conventions
This lamp type is sold under the following product line names:
- Philips (Signify): PL-S — the "S" stands for single tube
- GE: Biax S — also "S" for single
- Sylvania (Ledvance): Dulux S — same convention
All three are cross-compatible when matched by G23 base, wattage, and color temperature. Available in low wattages (5W–13W) with integrated starters for direct use on magnetic ballasts. The G23 base is universal across this lamp type, so there are no wattage-specific base variants to worry about — unlike the G24d used in double tube CFLs.
