Spiral 4-Pin
4-pin spiral CFLs pair the compact twist shape of a spiral lamp with a G24q or GX24q 4-pin base for use in fixtures with electronic ballasts. These lamps offer the same space-saving profile as screw-in spirals but are designed for commercial and institutional fixtures that require pin-base connections — and unlike their 2-pin magnetic ballast counterparts, the 4-pin configuration supports dimming when paired with a compatible electronic ballast.
Base Variants
4-pin spiral CFLs use the same base families as other 4-pin plug-in lamps, with the base variant determined by wattage:
- G24q-1: 13W lamps
- GX24q-3: 26W lamps
Always match the base designation to your fixture — the pin keying is physically different between variants to prevent incorrect wattage installation.
When to Use a 4-Pin Spiral
These lamps are typically used as direct replacements in existing 4-pin electronic ballast fixtures where a spiral form factor is preferred over a tube shape — either for aesthetic reasons or because the fixture's reflector and trim are designed around a more compact, omnidirectional light source. If your fixture currently uses a G24q or GX24q base lamp and you want a spiral shape, this is the correct category.
