UV-C light at 254nm disrupts the DNA and RNA of microorganisms, rendering them unable to reproduce and effectively neutralizing them on contact. This is the same technology used in hospital sterilization systems and water treatment facilities. Germicidal effectiveness requires direct exposure - UV-C doesn't penetrate most materials or work around corners.
